Drafting (sorting) is configured in the web app

If you do not have an integration with a third-party drafting system or Tru-Test Dairy Drafter/Sort Gate, you will need to set the draft (sort) times and the type of drafting you are doing. The type of drafting will determine which animals are selected by the algorithm for drafting. For example, if you draft for heat, animals on heat will be selected. If you draft for health, animals with potential health issues will be selected.

Notes:

  • Drafting (sorting) can only be configured in the web app.

  • You can only configure drafting (sorting) if you have admin permissions.

  • If you have a third-party drafting system or Tru-Test Dairy Drafter/Sort Gate, the drafting configuration should not be modified without the assistance of the Smart Farming Support team. See Understanding the drafting configuration for the Dairy Drafter/Sort Gate.

To configure drafting in the web app:

  1. Click on Farm Settings, then Drafting.

  2. Add a milking time and edit the time and reasons for drafting.

Note: Milking times must always add up to cover the full 24 hours e.g.

    • Morning milking 05:00 to 10:00 Heat and Health

    • Middle of the day 10:00 to 15:00

    • Evening milking 15:00 to 19:00 Health

    • Night 19:00 to 05:00

    3. If you are drafting for Heat, click on Edit Heat Draft Rules and modify the options at the bottom of the dialogue box, if required. See below for an explanation.

If you are drafting for heat, there are some additional settings which appear at the bottom of the drafting configuration dialogue:

Draft a heat multiple times (default is OFF)

Enable this option if you want animals to be drafted more than once during the period they are on heat.
Caution! Enabling this option could result in an animal being inseminated more than once.

Draft Do Not Breed animals (default is ON)
Disable this option if you want animals in heat and marked Do not breed to be excluded from the draft list. They will also be excluded from the In Heat report (Reproduction > In heat) if the “For breeding” filter is applied.

Draft dry animals (default is ON)
Disable this option if you want animals in heat and marked Dry to be excluded from the draft list. They will also be excluded from the In Heat report (Reproduction > In heat) if the “For breeding” filter is applied.

Draft animals in Voluntary Waiting Period (default is ON)
Disable this option if you want animals in heat and in their VWP to be excluded from the draft list. They will also be excluded from the In Heat report (Reproduction > In heat) if the “For breeding” filter is applied.
