Identifying excessive weight loss in newly calved cows

Newly calved cows should be monitored closely to ensure they are not losing an excessive amount of weight

It is good practice to keep a close eye on newly calved cows to ensure that they are not losing an excessive amount of weight. Using WOW and Datamars Livestock, it is easy to identify animals which are losing an excessive amount of weight after calving, allowing for early intervention.

To identify animals which are losing an excessive amount of weight after calving:

  1. Click on the group you want to examine e.g. First lactation calvers.

  2. In the Group by ADG panel, select Losing/Gaining Weight.

  3. Click on the red segment to view a list of animals in the group with below 0 ADG (average daily weight gain).

  4. Add a filter to show newly calved cows.

  5. Sort by ADG to view animals which have lost the most weight:
