Using WOW and Datamars Livestock, regular weighing makes it is possible to track animals towards a target weight plan.

For example, a rule-of-thumb is that heifers should be around 60-65% of their mature liveweight to be at the ideal weight for breeding. Animals which are not at this weight when inseminated are less likely to get pregnant.

To track animals against a growth target:

  1. Set up a group for animals, based on age e.g. 2022 born heifers.

  2. After a period of time, click on the group, then examine the weights against the target plan.

  3. In the Group by Weight area, click on the segment you want to examine e.g. the animals that are below target weight.

  4. Click on an animal to view the weight of an individual animal against the group average and target weight plan.

Tip: Animals that are not tracking to reach the target weight can be checked for health issues and/or given preferential feeding to get them back on track, ready for breeding.
