Troubleshooting NLIS transactions

Tips to resolve common issues when uploading sessions to NLIS

Updated over 9 months ago

Username and password

The most common issue preventing sessions from being uploaded is an incorrect NLIS username and password. The initial error from NLIS may say Access is denied. However, if you continue to try to upload the session, the error will change to Unknown error which means NLIS has temporarily locked your account.

Check your username and password by logging into the NLIS website directly. If you have a problem logging in, contact NLIS directly on 1800 683 111.

Once you've checked your username password, try entering your login details in Datamars Livestock again.

To re-enter your NLIS login details in Datamars Livestock:

  1. Click on Farm Settings in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click on National Registry (NLIS).

  3. Click on Log out.

  4. Click on NLIS settings and complete the details to log in to NLIS again.

  5. Re-try uploading a session to NLIS.

Correct NLIS numbers

  • Check that you have the correct NLIS PIC numbers for Sending and Receiving. Contact NLIS directly on 1800 683 111 for issues with NLIS PIC numbers.

  • Check that the Sending and Receiving PIC numbers are not the same.

  • Check that you are authorised to perform an transaction on a farm with a problem PIC number.

Animals already registered

Sometimes NLIS will provide a logical error which means that the upload was successful, but for specific animals, no changes were required. For example, a successful registration may include the error This animal is already registered to the PIC that you are transferring TO. This animal has already been transferred. This means the animal was already registered and no further action is required.
