Transferring sessions from a PC to Datamars Livestock

Session files saved on your PC can be imported into Datamars Livestock

You can import session files from a PC directly into Datamars Livestock. This is useful if you have previously downloaded sessions, perhaps edited them and now want to upload them again.

Session files must be formatted a special way before importing.

Formatting rules

File formatting rules:

  • The file must be in .csv format or xlsx format. No other formats can be imported.

  • The file must contain at least one column with an ID field. This column can be VID, EID or LID. The IDs used in the file will be matched to the IDs in Datamars Livestock.

  • The IDs must exactly match the IDs in Datamars Livestock (e.g. if the EIDs in Datamars Livestock contain a space, this is how they must be formatted in the file).

  • More than one ID column can be used in the file but ID information must be in the correct column.

  • Only animal records with an ID field will be imported.

  • Include a header row with labels. See below for the header row label rules.

  • The date format in the file must match the format used in Datamars Livestock.

🤚 If you upload the same session twice, duplicate sessions will be created which will need to be deleted manually.

Header row label rules

In the file, the header row labels must be exactly as below:

  • EID, IDE, RFID, Electronic Tag, Electronic ID or Electronic Identification

  • VID, IDV, Animal Number, Tag Number or Animal Tag

  • LID

  • Weight

  • Date (date when animal record was created, not today's date)

  • Time (time when animal record was created, not current time)

💡 We recommend removing extra columns of data. Extra information in the file may cause importing errors.

To upload session files from a PC into Datamars Livestock:

  1. Click on Sessions, then Import Sessions.

  2. Select the date format used in the file you are uploading.

  3. Click Browse and select the .csv or .xslx file which you formatted and saved earlier. Click Open.

💡 To select and upload more than one file, hold down the Ctrl or Command key then click on each file you would like to upload. If you have a lot of files to upload you can click on the first file, then hold the Shift key and click on the last file, and all the files in between will also be selected. Up to 20 session files can be uploaded at once, but each session file must be <1 MB.
