Groups in Datamars Livestock should match animal groups on your farm

Updated yesterday

You should create groups in Datamars Livestock to match the physical herds, mobs or pens on the farm e.g. Herd 1, Herd 2, Sick Mob.

This is important because the active tag solution will assess an individual animal's behaviour against the behaviour of all animals in a group. If the same unusual animal behaviour is recorded for all animals in the group, the behaviour will be attributed to an external event e.g. a loud noise, the presence of something unusual in the paddock or a weather event.

Using groups provides the active tag solution with a richer set of data for accurate animal monitoring.

📝 An animal can only belong to one group at a time.

📝 You must have admin permissions to create or modify groups.

You can create a new group or move an animal into a different group using the mobile app OR the web app. However, you must use the web app, rather than the mobile app to:

  • Create and modify group settings.

  • Archive unused groups

To create a new group in the web app:

  1. Click on My Herd, then Groups.

  2. Click on Add Group in the top, right-hand corner.

  3. Name the group to match the group on your farm and optionally add a description. Click Save group.

To archive an unused group in the web app:

  1. Click on My Herd, then Groups.

  2. Click on ... beside the group you want to archive.
📝 The group must be empty (i.e. 0 animals) otherwise it cannot be archived.

  3. Click on Archive.
