Changing the internet provider on a WOW system (Dairy WOW 4000 with LTE only)

You may need to change the internet provider for your Dairy WOW 4000 e.g if the default internet provider does not have adequate coverage

Updated this week

📝 This topic is for the Dairy WOW 4000 only. For all other models, click here.

If your Dairy WOW 4000 has an LTE internet connection, it will have a SIM card installed and an internet provider pre-configured. In some circumstances, you may need to change the default provider, for example if the default provider does not have reliable internet coverage or is not available in your location.

To change the internet provider, you need to:

  • Replace the supplied SIM card with a replacement from the new internet provider.

  • Modify the APN settings in OpenWRT. You need to find out the APN (Access Point Name) details from your internet provider.

To replace the SIM card in the control unit:

  1. Open the lid of the control unit.

  2. Locate the SIM card on the PCB board. Gently push the SIM card in with your fingers and it should pop out. Replace it with the new SIM card:

To modify the APN details using OpenWRT:

Log in to Open WRT

  1. Stand beside the control unit.

  2. Use a laptop to search for the control unit Wi-Fi. This is a unique Device ID, but it will always begin with the letters RWOW-

  3. Enter the network security key (password).
This is scorpio followed by the last 6 characters of the unique Device ID, as used in the Wi-Fi network name. Type the characters exactly as they appear, using lower case letters and no spaces. Example:

  4. In an internet browser address bar, enter the URL 192.168.50.1 to launch the OpenWRT configuration page:

  5. The OpenWRT login page will be displayed.

💡 If the OpenWRT login is not displayed, press the Home key on your keyboard to reveal the full URL and change https://192.168.50.1 to http://192.168.50.1.

  6. Log in with these credentials:

    • Username = root

    • Password = scorpio followed by the last 6 characters of the unique Device ID. The Device ID can be seen at the top of the screen. Example:

The laptop will now be logged in to OpenWRT.

Change the APN details

  1. In the Main Menu, click Network, then Interfaces. Next to LTEMODEM, click Edit:

  2. Make sure Bring Up On Boot is checked.

In the APN field, enter the APN details for the new internet provider being used. If you do not have this information, contact your new internet provider or the Datamars Smart Farming Support team (see below).

  3. You should see pending changes. Click Save & Apply:

  4. Check the internet connection. While still in the Network, Interfaces menu, check the LTE Modem connection:

The Connectivity LED should be illuminated on the front of the control unit:
