One of the fence nodes will not pair

Follow through each troubleshooting step in the order below. After each step, restart the pairing process to try again.

  1. Use your mobile phone to check whether the internet connection is OK, if not restart the internet modem.

  2. Check the gateway to make sure it is connected to the internet (the left LED on the gateway should be solid green), if not restart the internet modem.

  3. In the mobile app, tap My device > Add device > Fence Monitoring node, check whether the right LED on the gateway is flashing purple? If not, re-trigger the gateway by tapping the magnet on the reset symbol.

  4. During the pairing process, after you tap the magnet on the reset symbol on the side of the node, check the LED sequence on the node. The right LED on the node should flash purple, then within a few minutes, the left LED should revert to green and the right LED to blue. If the right LED light does not flash purple, or it remains purple or reverts to red, re-trigger the node by tapping the magnet on the reset symbol.

  5. If you have tried all of the above steps and the node still won't pair, contact the support team, see below.

One of the paired fence nodes cannot be installed using the mobile app

Try a different node in the same location.

  1. If the first node doesn't work, this indicates a problem with the location of the gateway.

  2. If a second node doesn't work either, this indicates a problem with the location of the node. There must always be a line-of-sight between each system component in order to form an effective 'mesh'. Check for obstructions between nodes or between the next node. Try relocating the node or adding another node in the problem area.

  3. If you have ruled out a problem with the location, the node may be faulty. Send the node to an authorised service centre.

My internet is supplied by satellite and the fence monitoring system doesn't seem to work properly even though the gateway and nodes installed correctly and the blue LED lights on the nodes flash every 20 seconds, as expected.

Check whether:

  • Fence nodes display as Offline in the mobile and web apps AND/OR

  • Fence nodes display as 0 kV in the mobile and web apps even though the electric fence is on.

If one or both of these apply and your modem relies on a satellite internet connection, you need to have special software installed on your gateway. Contact Datamars using the blue messaging tool on the bottom right hand side of this screen. You will need to supply your gateway's device ID (printed on a label on the gateway) and the name of your farm.

One of the fence nodes is offline

  1. Check for obstructions between nodes or between the gateway and nearest node. There must always be a line-of-sight between each system component in order to form an effective 'mesh'.

  2. Mount the node as high as possible by mounting a steel post on top of a fence post then mounting the node on the extension.

  3. Try relocating the node or adding another node in the problem area.

  4. If the problem persists, the node may be faulty. Send the node to an authorised service centre.

The gateway is offline

  1. Check that the power supply to the gateway and the internet modem is ON.

  2. Restart the internet modem.

  3. If the problem persists, the gateway may be faulty. Send the gateway to an authorised service centre.

Animals are interfering with a fence node

If a fence node cannot be installed out of reach of animals, problems may be caused by animal interference. To prevent this, attach a small piece of electrified wire to act as an animal deterrent. Full instructions for creating an animal deterrent are provided here.

The node battery is low or flat (error message)

  1. Clean the solar panel using a soft cloth and soapy water.

  2. Make sure that nothing is shading the solar panel (i.e. tree growth, object) and if necessary, remove it.

  3. If the problem persists, the battery may be faulty. Send the node to an authorised service centre.

The app tells me that the fence voltage is low, but when I test it using a DVM or fault finder, the fence voltage is OK

  1. Turn off the fence.

  2. Check the connections between the node and earth rod.

  3. Check the connections between the node and the fence.

  4. If the problem persists, the node may be faulty. Send the node to an authorised service centre.

I want to add another node to my fence monitoring system
