Troubleshooting - Connecting an EID reader to a 5000 indicator

Try these suggestions if you are having problems connecting an EID reader to a 5000 weigh scale indicator

Updated over a week ago

This article applies to:

  • XR5000, ID5000, JR5000 weigh scale indicators

  • XRS2i, XRS2, SRS2i, SRS2 EID stick readers

  • XRP2i, XRP2 EID panel readers

Follow the instructions here to connect an EID stick reader to a 5000 indicator. However, if you are having trouble establishing a connection, perform the following checks:

If you are having trouble with a Bluetooth connection

Check the indicator's Bluetooth settings

  1. Go to Settings > Next page > Connections.

  2. In the Bluetooth screen, make sure that Bluetooth is ON and Auto Connect is enabled:

Check the EID stick reader's Bluetooth settings

  1. Go to Settings, Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is set to Manual.
📝Although Bluetooth can be set to Auto, we recommend setting the EID stick reader to Manual and the indicator to Auto. Using different settings on the two devices seems to provide a more reliable Bluetooth connection.

  2. Select Advanced and make sure that Connect Mode and Output are both set to [Default]:

Check the indicator to make sure it is not connected to another device

  1. Go to Settings > Next page > Connections.

  2. In the Bluetooth screen, make sure that the indicator is not connected to a different Bluetooth device:

  3. If it is, disconnect the device by selecting it, pressing ENTER and Disconnect.

Check the indicator to make sure it is not attempting to connect to a random Bluetooth device

  1. Go to Settings > Next page > Connections.

  2. In the Bluetooth screen, make sure that the indicator is not attempting to continuously connect to a random Bluetooth device:

  3. If it is, disconnect the device by selecting it, pressing ENTER and Disconnect.

If you are trying to connect an XRP2i EID panel reader to the 5000 indicator via a cable

Check the cable

In most circumstances, we recommend using Bluetooth to connect a 5000 indicator with an XRP2i EID panel reader. However, if this is not possible, you can use a special cable which is sold as an optional accessory. This may be ordered through your local Datamars retailer:

Datamars part number 880 0000-665

📝 You cannot use the standard cable supplied with your XRP2i EID panel reader as this is only for connecting to a PC.
