Before you can use your Zebra ZQ500 series barcode printer with an XRS2i/XRS2 EID stick reader, you need to upload a special configuration file to the printer. This allows the printer to communicate with the stick reader.
🤚 Before you start, you need to:
Download and install the Zebra Setup Utilities app from the Zebra website. This app will allow you to transfer a configuration file to the Zebra barcode printer.
Download the configuration file (ZQ500_series_config.txt). Unzip it and save the .txt file in a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop).
To configure the Zebra ZQ500 series printer:
Turn ON the printer and connect it to the PC using the USB cable supplied. The USB port is shown below:
Double-click on the shortcut to launch the Zebra Setup Utilities app:
Click on Open Communication With Printer:
💡 If you printer isn't listed in the dialogue above, click on Install New Printer and follow the wizard. Be sure to select the correct printer model e.g. ZQ511 (CPCL).
Click on the Open folder icon and select the configuration file (ZQ500_series_config.txt) which you downloaded earlier.
Once the file has loaded, click on Send To Printer.
A message will appear at the bottom of the screen to indicate that the configuration file has been transferred:
Disconnect the printer from the computer. It is now ready to use with a Tru-Test XRS2i/XRS2 EID stick reader.
