You can use your Tru-Test XRS2i/XRS2 EID stick reader with a portable barcode label printer. This allows you to print barcode labels associated with animal data such as EIDs and VIDs for traceability on DNA and blood samples, or on fleece or velvet.
The XRS2i/XRS2 EID stick reader has the ability to customise the labels printed within the Bluetooth Advanced settings. The settings can be configured to change the data printed, barcode length and size for different requirements.
📝 If using an XRS2i EID stick reader, it must be running software version 1.4.11.34 or above. See Updating the XRS2i/XRS2 or SRS2i/SRS2's software using Data Link PC software. The Bluetooth firmware must be 1.1.4 or above. See Upgrading the XRS2i/SRS2i Bluetooth firmware.
📝 If using an XRS2 EID stick reader, it must be running software version 1.4.4 or above. See Updating the XRS2i/XRS2 or SRS2i/SRS2's software using Data Link PC software.
About barcode label printers
There are various Bluetooth barcode label printer which are suitable for use with the Tru-Test XRS2i/XRS2 EID stick reader, however regardless of the model, it will need to be configured in order to print when an animal is scanned.
We recommend Zebra ZQ500 series printers. These are robust and rugged portable printers which we have experience setting up for farm/property and traceability projects. See Configuring a Zebra ZQ500 series barcode printer for use with an XRS2i/XRS2 EID stick reader.
Watch the video below to learn how to:
Set up the XRS2i/XRS2 Bluetooth settings

an XRS2 EID stick reader is used with a Zebra ZQ500 series barcode label printer. The process is very similar for an XRS2i EID stick reader and other models of barcode label printer.
the barcode label printer is used to print a barcode label with the animal's EID on it, as scanned by stick reader. Other options are possible, this is just one illustration of how it can be used.
