When using an S3 indicator to weigh animals in Datamars Pro, you should set Load Bar Type to match the load bars you are using. For Tru-Test load bars and most other leading load bar types, this is a simple process, described here.
However, if you are not using Tru-Test load bars and your load bars are not in the list of options, you need to set Load Bar Type to Tru-Test, then perform a span calibration. This will ensure that the S3 indicator will weigh accurately with non-standard load bars.
Before you start:
You will need a known weight (e.g. a few bags of feed with accurate, known weights)
Ensure that your load bars are free from dirt and stones
Know the capacity of your load bars.
To span calibrate non-standard load bars:
Launch Datamars Pro.
In the S3 indicator screen, tap the Settings icon
in the top, right-hand corner. In the Load Bar Type field, select Tru-Test.
Tap Span Calibration.
Tap Begin Calibration.
Enter the load bar capacity e.g. 2000 kg. If you don't know the capacity of your load bars, enter a weight slightly greater than your heaviest animal.
Set the Resolution. 0.5 kg is normally OK.
Make sure there is nothing on the scale. When the screen displays Zero Weight, press Next.
Add a test weight to the scale and enter the value of the test weight on the screen e.g. 30 kg. Press Next.
Press Calibrate. As soon as calibration is complete, tap Begin weighing.
