Troubleshooting - Using load bars with an S3 indicator

Follow these troubleshooting steps if you have problems with your load bars and S3 weigh scale indicator

Updated today

This article applies to:

  • S3 weigh scale indicators

  • Load bars - all models

Weight readings are unstable, the indicator is not zeroing OR the indicator is displaying "undEr" (Underload), "ouEr" (Overload) or "Er 05" (Bad Cell Code)

An Underload, Overload or Bad Cell Code error message means that the indicator has not been set up properly OR something is physically wrong with the weighing system.

  1. Check that your S3 indicator is set up correctly for weighing, zero the indicator and test the weigh scale using a known weight (e,g, your body weight). If you are still having problems, follow the remaining steps.

  2. Check that nothing is interfering with the load bars. For example, sticks, stones, hardened mud, bits of conduit or chain etc can bind the load bars, preventing them from moving properly. Clean around the platform and load bars using a stiff broom (do not use a pressure washer/hose to clean the load bars).

  3. Check for damaged load bar cables. Any cuts or wearing? If so, order replacement load bar cables. Contact your local retailer or territory manager.

  4. Check for moisture in the connectors. Disconnect the load bar connectors. Using a soft cloth with methylated spirits or isopropyl alcohol (nothing stronger), wipe the pins on the indicator, inside the connectors on the load bar cables and around the caps. When dry, reconnect and test again.

  5. Find out which part is faulty - a connector, a load bar cable or a port on the indicator. To do this:
    a. Disconnect both load bar cables from the weigh scale indicator.
    b. Reconnect the first load bar cable to the first port on the indicator. Now try connecting it to second port.
    c. Test the second load bar cable the same way.
    d. If one load bar has an issue with both ports, this indicates a faulty load bar, load bar cable or load bar connector. Send both load bars in for servicing.

If both load bars have an issue with one port, this indicates a faulty port on the weigh scale indicator. Send the weigh scale indicator in for servicing.
If both load bars have an issue with both ports and you are using third-party load bars (not Tru-Test load bars) with a Tru-Test weigh scale indicator, perform a Span Calibration.
