Using Active Tag heat alerts on a beef farming operation

Using Active Tag heat alerts saves time by identifying animals in heat for you

On a beef operation, a lot of time can be spent trying to identify animals in heat, looking for mounting behaviour, trying to find animals at the right time in their cycle.

Active Tag does the hard work for you by identifying an animal in heat and sending an alert. This means all you need to do is find the animal in the herd, bring her into the handling facilities and prepare for insemination.

An AI window is displayed for both conventional semen and sexed semen so you can view the optimum time for conception.

After insemination, record the AI event and if the animal has moved into a different group or paddock. This is done in Datamars Livestock or in your integrated herd management software.

The beef heat alert work flow is:

  1. Receive an alert that an animal is on heat

  2. Find the animal in the herd

  3. Bring the animal into the yards

  4. Inseminate during her recommended AI window

  5. Record the event
