Assigning animals to a group

When you upload a session, assign the animal IDs and weights in that session to a group

Updated over a month ago

After you have uploaded a session file, you can assign animals and any weights without IDs to a group from the Actions screen.

On the Actions screen, you will see your uploaded session file with one or more actions listed beside. There are three types of actions:

  • Assign new animals to a group.

  • Assign weights without IDs to a group.

  • Acknowledge that animals already belonging to a group have been updated.

Assigning new animals to a group

If you have animals in your session file which have an ID but have not yet been assigned to a group, Datamars Livestock will ask you to assign these animals to a group.

Select Assign to assign these animals to a new group you create, or add them to an existing group. You can assign all animals to the same group, or split them into different groups.

📝 In some situations, Datamars Livestock may predict a suitable group for animals based on the contents of the session file. Choose Yes to accept the recommendation, or choose Change to assign animals to a new or different existing group.

After animals have been assigned to a group, they will stay in that group until you mark them as sold or died, or you choose to move them to a new group.
If you assign animals to the wrong group, you can change this at any time on the Session Summary screen.

Assigning weights without IDs to a group

If there are weights in your session file without IDs, you will see an action asking whether you want to add these to a group.

Select Assign to assign these weights to a new group you create, or add them to an existing group. You can assign all weights to the same group, or split them into different groups.

📝 In some situations, Datamars Livestock may predict a suitable group for weights based on the contents of a session file. Choose Yes to accept the recommendation, or choose Change to assign the weights to a new or different existing group.

If you don't know which group the weights should be assigned to, you can select Ignore Action to prevent the weights being added to any group. You can add the unassigned weights at any time on the Session Summary screen.

Updating animals which have already been assigned to a group

If there are animal IDs in the uploaded session file which already exist in a group, Datamars Livestock will advise that the group has been updated.
You can either:

  • Click Yes to acknowledge this and hide the action.

  • Mark animals as sold to remove them from your group reporting.

  • Mark animals as died to remove them from your group reporting.

  • Select Change to move the animals to a new group.

📝 You can apply any of these actions to some or all of the animals at once.

If you dismiss the action by mistake and forget to sell your animals, or change their groups, you can do this at any time on the Session Summary screen.
