BETA - The pre-mating report

This report is for pre-mating time, allowing you to compare animal performance on your farm against a benchmark

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What does the pre-mating report show?

A pre-mating report shows your herd's cycling rate, in the lead-up to mating.

Why is pre-mating cycling important?

A high number of non-cycling cows can significantly impact overall reproductive performance. These cows reduce both the 3-week submission rate and the conception rate to first insemination - the two key drivers of a successful 6-week in-calf rate. Identifying and addressing non-cyclers early is essential to achieving reproductive targets and maintaining herd productivity.

Interpreting the graphs

A pre-mating report will be sent once-a-week in the five weeks before the planned start of mating (PSM):

  1. Day -28 (28 days before planned start of mating)

  2. Day -21 (21 days before planned start of mating)

  3. Day -14 (14 days before planned start of mating)

  4. Day -7 (-7 days before planned start of mating)

  5. PSM (planned start of mating)

📝 The PSM is in the top, right-hand corner of each report. If this date is incorrect, call 0800 243 282 to have the date modified.

In each report, there will be six graphs:

  1. Whole herd cycling rate (summary of the whole herd)

  2. Heifer cycling rate (first time calvers or 1-2 years old)

  3. Early calving* heifer cycling rate (first time calvers or 1-2 years old)

  4. Three year old cycling rate

  5. Early calving* three year old cycling rate

  6. Early calving* mature cows cycling rate (cows over 3 years old)

*Early calving animals have previously calved 9 weeks or more before PSM.

Your farm data is shown as a blue line

The blue line and number on the left hand side show the number of your cows cycling in the preceding week.

Regional data is shown as background colours

The background colours and numbers below show the benchmark derived from other Datamars Active Tag customers in your region. Use this information for context.

Colour key:

  • Gold - top result, no action required

  • Silver - good result, no action required

  • Bronze - seek advice

  • Dark grey - seek advice

  • Black - ACT NOW!

Number of non-cyclers

Underneath the graphs is the Total number of Non-Cyclers (left) and the Number of Non-Cycling Heifers and 3 Year Olds (right).

Early Treatment Calculators

The Day-14, Day-7 and PSM reports will show Early Treatment Calculators. These calculators support decision-making by showing the gains expected from early treatment of non-cyclers. Calculators show:

  • Estimated impact on early Days in Milk (DIM)

  • Estimated impact on Herd 3 week in-calf rate (3WICR)

Actions

Use Datamars Livestock

In Datamars Livestock, view animals with reproductive issues in the Repro Issues screen. Animals in this list can be drafted for checking, interventions.

Seek advice

If your herd's performance is rated Bronze, Dark Grey or Black, we recommend consulting a veterinarian or farm consultant. You can invite a vet or consultant to your farm in Datamars Livestock and give them administrator permissions so that they automatically receive your tailored reproduction reports.

📝 You can have multiple administrators in Datamars Livestock.
