Prattley autodrafter - Setting up and using a remote control

Find out how to connect a Cabled remote control, or pair a Radio remote control with the PAD6 control unit

Updated over a week ago

This article applies to Prattley series 600 autodrafters:

  • 3-Way Swing Gate AutoDrafter

  • 5-Way Swing Gate AutoDrafter

  • 2-Way Electric AutoDrafter

  • 3-Way Slide Gate AutoDrafter

  • 3-Way Electric AutoDrafter

These autodrafters include a PAD6 control unit and a 5000 indicator (JR5000, ID5000 or XR5000).

The PAD6 Remote control is a handheld device and allows you to remotely connect to a Prattley PAD6 system and drive the operation of the autodrafter.

It is available as a radio or cabled model.

Connecting your remote control

Both models need to be connected to the PAD6 control unit to operate.

Cabled remote control connection

If you are using a Cabled remote control insert the end of the cable into the circular USB socket on the side of the PAD6 control unit (as shown).

When the PAD6 control unit is powered up and ready for drafting, the Cabled remote control should operate.

Radio remote control connection

Connection of the Radio remote control requires pairing via Bluetooth®.

Checking the Bluetooth connections

Ensure the Prattley PAD6 system is powered up and the Bluetooth connection is up and running. To do this, connect the power to the PAD6 control unit and 5000 series indicator and ensure the connections are up and running as described in Step 1 - Connecting the 5000 series indicator to the PAD6 control unit via Bluetooth.

Pairing the two devices

To pair a Radio remote control to the PAD6 control unit:

  1. Plug in the power to the PAD6 control unit and the red lights flicker and then settle down to its default locked keypad state.

  2. To unlock the keypad, double-tap the AUTO SETUP button repeatedly until the KEYLOCK light turns off.

💡 Once unlocked, work quickly or the keypad will automatically lock again.

  3. Hold down the AUTO SETUP button until the MODE lights start blinking. This indicates that the PAD6 is in pairing mode, searching for nearby devices.

  4. Press both the left arrow (2) and right arrow (3) buttons together on the Radio remote control.

After a few seconds, the PAD6 will have the REMOTE light illuminated to indicate that the two units are paired:

📝 Pairing can be done in any order, while holding the left (2) and right (3) arrow buttons down on the Radio remote control first, then touching the AUTO SETUP button, will also work.

🤚 If the battery light flashes red when a button on the Radio remote control is pressed, the battery needs replacing (AA battery).

Replacing the battery on the Radio remote control

📝No battery is required with the Cabled remote control, as that is powered from the PAD6 control unit.

To replace the single battery:

  1. Unscrew the back cover from the Radio remote control.

  2. Take out the battery and replace it with a double AA battery.

  3. Refit the screws.
